THE FEED IS
THE CAMPAIGN.

← Back to insights

Most businesses running Google Shopping spend their energy in the wrong place. They obsess over bids, budgets, and target ROAS — and barely look at the product feed. That is backwards. In Shopping, the feed is the campaign.

Google serves the feed, not your keywords

There are no keywords in Shopping. Google decides which searches your products appear on by reading the feed — your titles, your product types, your attributes, your descriptions. If the data is thin or wrong, your products simply do not show, no matter how aggressive your bidding. You are bidding on impressions you will never receive.

We have audited accounts where the business was convinced their problem was budget, when the real problem was that 60% of the catalogue had no chance of serving because the feed was incomplete. No amount of bid tuning fixes a product Google cannot understand.

The hidden catalogue is where the money is

For businesses with large catalogues, this is the single biggest untapped opportunity we find. The hero products — the few hundred SKUs everyone already knows sell — get attention. The thousands behind them sit invisible: weak titles, missing product types, no GTINs, disapprovals nobody has looked at.

Cleaning and enriching that feed so the whole range can serve regularly does not require more budget. It requires the data work most agencies will not do because it is unglamorous. That work is exactly where the largest revenue gains usually sit.

Structure turns the feed into a commercial tool

Beyond cleanliness, the feed is how you apply commercial logic to Shopping. Through custom labels you can segment products by margin and performance — so high-margin winners scale, lossmakers are contained, and new products get controlled exposure. The feed stops being a passive data dump and becomes the lever that routes budget by commercial value.

This is why we built proprietary feed management into how we work. The feed is not the boring part of Shopping. It is the part that decides whether the campaign works at all.
